Classic New York

Classic New York

You might notice shoes hanging from power lines when walking around New York City. This act is calling shoe tossing or "shoefiti". People would tie the shoe laces of a pair of shoes together and throw them up, trying to get them to hang by the powerlines. There are many theories as to why the shoes are hung. It can relate to gang or drug sites. It can also symbolize bullying; that bullies would take the victim shoes and hang them where they cannot be retrieved. There are also positive theories, like celebrations of the school year or weddings. Whatever the reasons are, it has been a classic urban staple of New York City. It has been around for many years and will continue to be a trend for a long time.
